How to use the JSON Formatter
- Paste JSON into the input or import a UTF-8 .json file up to 2 MB.
- Valid JSON is formatted with two spaces per indentation level. Invalid JSON shows an error and preserves the source.
- Copy or download the formatted result. Choose Minify JSON to remove optional formatting whitespace.
What this tool does
JSON uses objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans and null to represent structured data. Formatting changes whitespace around values to make nesting easier to follow. It does not validate an application's schema. This tool uses JavaScript JSON parsing, so integers outside the safe integer range can lose precision; represent large identifiers as strings before converting. Duplicate object keys are resolved by the parser, with the last value kept.

}
}Common errors and practical limits
- Property names and strings require double quotes. Single quotes are not valid JSON string delimiters.
- Remove trailing commas after the last object property or array value. Comments are not part of standard JSON.
- Check closing braces and brackets, and escape line breaks inside strings as \n rather than inserting literal newlines.
Frequently asked questions
Does formatting JSON validate it?
It validates JSON syntax by parsing the input. It does not check field types, required properties, an API contract, or a JSON Schema.
Can I minify JSON too?
Yes. The Minify JSON quick action parses the same input and removes optional whitespace. Spaces that are part of string values are preserved.
Does this support JSON5, comments, or trailing commas?
No. This formatter accepts standard JSON. Remove comments and trailing commas, and use double-quoted property names before formatting.
Is my input uploaded?
Conversions run on your device. No account is required, and input is not uploaded automatically. The optional Appwrite connection checks service availability at startup; only choosing to save a cloud snippet sends workspace content to your account.
